Well, I know we talk about playing waterball every year for my birthday, so I thought I would give everybody the run-down so that they too can play the hardest game on earth Waterball
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 pool (small children size)
1 snow intertube with filled middle
1 "Clothesline Obstacle"
3 balls of various size
1 small toy rake
1 package water balloons
OBJECT:
Score points by tossing balls into the tube.
Although it seems like a relatively easy task, scoring points in waterball is very difficult. Because the tube has a middle in it, getting the ball to stay in the tube takes a combination of skill and luck. Not only is it hard to keep the ball in the tube, but the comination of the clothesline obstacle and the fact that the tube is usually moving adds to the degree of difficulty.
COURSE SET UP:
Place the tube in the pool
Place the rake into the tube
Place the clothesline obstacle directly over the center of the pool
Place throwing line
EQUIPMENT:
1 Point ball - this ball is the largest of the balls - a rubber children's bouncing ball - obviously, if you make it, it is worth 1 point
2 Point ball - this is the medium size ball - again a rubber children's bouncing ball - obviously, if you make it, it is worth 2 points
Re-shoot / Peg ball - this is a small hard-foam ball which serves two purposes
1. If made, this ball does not count for points, but allows you to shoot the point ball of your choice again 1 time
2. If this ball does not hit the tubE while in the air, the thrower takes a peg (see PEGGING)
The Rake - the rake sits in the middle of the tube, if someone knocks the rake out, they get to shoot all three balls again after their regular turn has expired...commonly refferred to as a "rake-out"
GAMEPLAY:
(A time limit may be set for gameplay, however, the game usually just goes until everyone gets really drunk and passes out.)Players take turns throwing the three balls in any order they wish, trying to score points. Balls may be tossed in any fashion the player chooses, however underhand is the preferred method. After a player throws the three balls, their turn is over and it is the next person's turn, unless the player has earned a peg. If the player has earned a peg, said peg will be taken and then gameplay will resume. Repeat until there is a winner. the winner is the person with the most points at the end of the game.
THE PEG:
The peg is an essential part of waterball. An official peg is defined as a waterball player being hit by a water balloon for committing an infraction. If a player has earned a peg by committing an infraction, they must stand by the pool and receive a pegging from the person next in line. The pegger MUST stay behind the throwing line.
INFRACTIONS:
1. Failure to hit the tube in the air with the re-shoot / peg ball
2. Failure to reach the pool with a point ball. If a thrown point ball hits the gound before reaching the pool, it's a peg. Overthrown balls do not count as an infraction.
3. Touching or otherwise altering the position of the tube in any manner other than a thrown ball
4. Failure to break a balloon on someone during a peg( if a balloon does not break on the throw after hitting the ground, or if the thrower misses completely and the balloon lands in the pool and doesn't break, the thrower must take a peg at the hands of the person that they missed. After the retaliation throw, gameplay resumes in previous order)
5. Touching an opponent while taunting (see TAUNTING)
6. Taunting a shooter on a shot in which a point ball is made (see TAUNTING)
Warning! any unsanctioned or unruly pegging will result in being tossed into the pool (if such diciplinary action must be taken, disregard infraction #3)
TAUNTING:
Taunting is a crucial part of the game. Any taunt is acceptable except a taunt that results in the touching of the shooter. Taunting is a successful tactic to make your opponent miss...save your best ones for crucial moments in the game!!!! If a shooter is taunted before a shot and makes the shot, they may choose to peg one of their taunting opponents ( it is usually the person who is taunting the worst, so be careful!)
Well, there you go...build your own waterball court, consume a rediculous amount of alcohol and have a blast!
