Crazy Mouse

OK, I have an issue that I hope someone can help me resolve.

I have an eMachine T5624 computer, AMD Athalon 54 Processor 3500@, 1 GB memory, the pwer supply indicates 300 watts max output, and a new Radeon HD 2400 Pro video card w/256MB Ultra High Speed DDR2 memory which fis into a x16 PCIe slot. My computer came w/onboard ATI Radeon Express 200. It shared memory w/the computer which is one of the reasons I bought the new video card. I had hoped having it's own memory would free system memory and thus improve game play.

Here, according to online specs are the requirements for the card itself:

System Requirements
PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
300 Watt or greater power supply recommended (My box indicates 270 watt or greater power supply recommended)
Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to ati.amd.com/CertifiedPSU for a list of Certified products

Not shown online, but the carton indicates Intel Pentium 4, Celeron, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Athlon XP, Sempron or compatible

Now, sporadically, when I'm playing my mouse sends me into a "whirlwind" (spinning uncontrollably in location usually facing down) and no apparent way to stop it. Sometimes I have spawned with my gun in hand just firing away, and again no way to stop it. This has happened to me in both DoD 1.3 and Source.

I would like to correct this if I can (and no I don't wish to get rid of the new video card).

I don't know if I should just turn down the detail levels in game (when I installed most everything was automatically set high).

My suggestion Guns would be to first change the mouse sensitivity options, see if it does it again with the new settings. Also, what kind of mouse do you have, I'm guessing it's an optical.

Also, do you have V-sync on? Try turning that off and changing your settings down a notch. I'm kinda leaning towards it being your mouse causing the problems though. See if there are any driver updates and check your mouse for damage.

I have been experiencing the same problem for a while back in the days. I am using a Logitech M-BD58 optical mouse, it's pretty old, but still does the trick. I constantly get dirt piling up under the optical led and some dog hair stuck in front of the led. So keeping the mouse ( and mouse pad ) clean at all times and turning the sensitivity down a notch helped resolve most of the problem. Why most ... well for non-understandable reasons, I sometimes get the exact same problem, but it occurs randomly and not really often, so when it does happen, it tells me it's time to clean up my mess ...

( by the way I don't have even close to your rig, and have seen the problem, so I doubt this is the source, as Buldge said, look towards the mouse instead. )

Issue resolved. Although the mouse functioned, I guess it was on its way out. I ended up replacing the mouse and the problem is gone.

I bought a 5-button USB Optical mouse and that cured the problem. Since then though I purchased a microsoft wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse (and still no issues).

Though the 5-button mouse did cure the problem, I didn't like the extra buttons. It rhrew my game off (and the other night I accidently TK'd Beek) because of my yet unfamiliarity with the new button configurations and I didn't really like the feel of it. The newest mouse is only 3-button, so the configuration is much like it was before and more comfortably handling it.
