The peanut gallery has been calling me a hacker again lately, so in an effort to shut them up I'm going to give some of my tip's on using DOD's Browning Automatic Rifle.
Keep in mind that using the BAR is less of a science and more of an educated guess.
When firing the BAR don't bother to precisely aim it like a rifle. Use it like a shotgun. Just point at the target and fire. Depending if you fire in small or large bursts you will create a tight or wide fire pattern. Your rate of fire and high caliber make up for a lack of precision.
Fire the BAR in BURSTS! Non-stop fire won't hit much of anything unless you're set-up. I typically fire in 5-8 round bursts.
The BAR has some hefty recoil. In order to keep continous fire on target you must keep a steady downward push on the gun. This takes lots of practice to get just right.
The BAR is not a great long range weapon. I find it is most deadly at close to medium range. If you take on someone who is using a rifle at extreme range, you're not likely to come out on top.
At close to medium range the MP40 is your nemesis. BEWARE. It's high rate of fire and accuracy will do more damage than you can in the same amount of time.
Fire from cover. The BAR is not a "one shot kill" weapon. Use anything available, sandbags, corners, trees, fences, etc. Whatever will keep you safe to fire the second burst.
Firing the Bar from the crouched position dramatically increases your accuracy yet still allows you to keep moving. You will often see me crouch, fire, then dart away.
Don't forget about the bipod and setup points. The BAR is a support weapon. There are lots of places you can setup and pin the enemy down to help your team advance or get into place. I personally prefer the BAR over the 50. CAL as a support weapon for the allies.
That's all I've got for now. Try some out if you like or add more points if I've forgotten them.
