Not being one who likes 2 or more snipers on the server at any time, Id propose the following and anybody else can put their 2 cents in. 1) Snipers...1 and only one 2) MG's...1 3) Sub MG's...2 to 3 (that's pushing it in a WWII 6-12 man squad) 4) Rifles...unlimited 5) Bazookas...1 Now, I guess you need to keep in mind the fact that bots can hog up the restricted classes which can only be remedied by an admin. Here's some facts. Keep in mind that these are regiments, platoons and companies, look at the number of men in each and then think of a 12 man squad. (you do the math!) Fill in the missing numbers with riflemen. US Infantry Regiment In 1944:6 105mm Howitzers, 9 57mm anti-tank guns, 55 .50 caliber machine guns, many .30 caliber machine guns and enough Jeeps & ammunition to operate US Infantry Company In 1944:193 men, 15 BARs, 2 M1919A4s, 1 .50 caliber machine gun and 6 submachine guns US Infantry Platoon In 1944:41 men, 1 M2 carbine, 3 BARs US Airborne Infantry Company:176 men, 9 machine guns, 9 BARs, 3 60mm mortars and 3 bazookas US Airborne Infantry Platoon:36 men, 2 M1919A6s, 22 rifles, 14 M2 carbines, 1 60mm mortar, 1 sniper rifle and 1 bazooka Another thing to keep in mind is that WE can't restrict ourselves in the server and then go into scrims and play a totally different way with unlimited weapons.

1) Snipers...1
2) MG's...1
3) Assault (Bar & Sturmtruppe) 3
4) Rifles (M1 Garand & K98) 3
Unlimited everything else.
I've played on servers where a clan had unlimited k98s. It sucks. Maybe not realistic to WWII but IMO too many rifles means trench warfare.

I agree that all K98's is a pain in the butt...but it is quite appropriate for the war. They made millions upon millions of 98's and they're still out there today! Now if the hit power was lowered a tad I'd feel better about them. Even today a shot to the ankle is not lethal!
BAR's on parade is totally ridiculous in my opinion. The gun in the DOD game is almost stupid. Trust me, nobody could run with that thing shouldered and hit everything that moves!

Ok, so there are 18 slots on ToD
9 per team
I agree with 1 sniper 1 mg 1 rocket
3 each for assault/smg
and put rifles at 5
That way you avoid a server full of rifles and also keep players honest with their weapon selection.
Dave, I sent you an e-mail a while back about possibly setting the server up so if say, everyone wants to go all rockets an admin could set it up. I think it would be necessary once we restrict weapons. There have been a couple of times on the server where a large majority of those on agree to go with a single class for a map just for fun.
I've been on a few servers where an admin will set everyone with rockets or snipers and have a no-scope fight. Once in a while things like that are fun.
Thanks Dave

Looks like for the most part that everyone is in general agreement with having one sniper, mg, and bazooka. That seems fair to me.
As far as limiting the other classes, I am not sure. I tend to think it is more fun to play when you can play a class of your liking. Also, some members joining might turn away if they cannot be a class they like.
I know I am a lot better with a thompson than a rifle for example. So it's more enjoyable for me to play that way, and it also makes me a tougher opponent to play against.

Thanks Dave I'll look into setting that up with a script and menu. Right now you can do that by changing the mp_limit settings in the cvar menu, but a script will make it a lot easier.

Dave, those limits seem reasonable to me. I just hate sniper battles! Buldge did some experimenting this evening and it seems that bots weapon choice does NOT affect class limits for human players. I think thats right

Yeah, if memory serves me right, you are correct. There are settings to limit what classes a player can be, and also settings to limit what bots can play as.
Both these settings can be for the entire server, which will effect all maps, or we can customize weapons classes for each individual map.

We were wondering if there was a way to make a quick key (for lack of better terms) that would toggle on all knives or some other weapons class when agreed upon by the players.

Well that's really 2 questions there. Right now, I have no idea how to make it an all melee kind of game. I do however know how to limit it to a certain class, however there is no knives class.

just my 2 cents, i like to play in a server where there is no class restrictions.. as you all know i love to snipe, and if there is a class restriction on it, it will drive me crazy...lol but i guess i will have to go with the flow..... PEACE------------------>LONE

Maybe a better question is..what is each of us good with and what should we carry into a scrim?
I'm ok with no restrictions on the server when playing for fun but cringe when I see an Allied unit with 6 BARS coming at me! I don't have much fun seeing guys shouldering that weapon and making head shots on the run!

that doesnt' bother me all that much.........It just means more bars laying around to pick up and wreak havoc with!!!!!!

Bar's
I guess the other thing to consider is what we'll be up against in scrims - if there are a lot of bars out there we need to get used to 'em even if its not realistic.
What I'd love to see is a limit on the MGs and snipers when only 2-3 humans are on a side. I hate going to a server for a little R&R and trying to play 2on2 and the other side is MG's and snipers :0(
