Let's face it, our game is obsolete. Day of Defeat is the coolest MP game Ive ever played. I love the community we have made together, the great memories playing with the various clans, and the crazy people who I consider will be life long friends. I hope someday I get the chance to hang out with all of you.
But our game is old as some of us are. I dont think anyone is playing on a ten year old machine. This is how old the technology is that built our game. I dont think the Dev team will ever work on DOD 1.3 anymore, there are some flaws in the game and the bots kinda suck. These things we are stuck with, instead they will focus on DOD Source and newer games, as we should too.
Most of the DOD Players not nescessarily are community have already made the switch. We are still hanging in there, I think cuz we dont want to lose each other, ahhh.
But with the loss of players on the overall DOD 1.3 community, we are losing potential players that should be comming to our servers. Which I feel is making a lot of frustration for the Captain's of the teams and the server owner/operators.
LISTEN CLOSE NOW What if we were to pool our resources, took all the skill and knowlege from our online gamming experiences. Used the people that are nothing short of Geniusses on a computer, and the people that are willing and able to pay for a server. And take our entire online DOD community with us and start a Professional, state of the art, the best admins in the world, 30 slot, ass kickin DOD Source server?
Now with that said, I am sure there will be a lot of yaes and naes. This doesn't mean we have to stop playing DOD 1.3, we could meet up on one of the many empty servers and play, or go to a server that is still popular.
We would lose some people in the transition, but I am sure we would gane a bunch real soon after the server was started. I would even go as far as to help others with financial trouble purchase the game, by the way it's only $9.95
Please consider this and help keep the game community that we have all built together alive. Your obediant servant to the rebuilding of our online empire Jimkirk (over and out)

Jim's pretty much correct. But I'm not about to upgrade to better play Source. I'll hold thanks...
All I look for is a good game and if the only folks we ever get are the ones we currently have I'd be satisfied! (for the most part)
As far as scrims go I'm totally into picking 2 captains and choosing from there. The game is guaranteed to be pretty close and nobody should get frustrated by being creamed! Although there is the "fat kid gets picked last syndrome" possibility! But most know their rank on the food chain by now and should be able to deal with it!
As far as whoever you are spewing the "Are you afraid of our roster" crap...quit trying to stir the dung pot! Are you serious? Afraid? Afraid of what? As info: This is a a stupid, time wasting game played to relax me...Feel free to follow a thread, read it, think it through, digest what's being said, then comment!

Thanks Jump, I was worried about peoples machines, and the spueing is pretty funny I think but we should be careful.
We should find out exactly what the requirements are for Source and post them for people that are interested.

I still think one of our current servers, ran like TLO was in it's heyday is quite possible and would be a success!

Here is my 2 cents . . . for what it's worth;
I started playing DoD around the time it first came out, and I enjoyed it, along with Team Fortress and the rest. Started playing in high-school and played through much of college. But then due to many circumstances including a highjacked Steam account, lack of a decent internet connection, and no time. I stopped playing, and was amazed to find people still playing it a couple of years ago when I started playing again. DoD has had a good run and it is still fun to play.
I remember bringing it up when AAMO began to form that I think it would be neat to start up a Source server to play around with.
Just because some of us want to go to Source doesn't mean a split. [K-9] runs several servers; DOD:S, DOD, CS:S,and HL2 I think. All under one tag and they still have fun together in their respective games and showing up clanmates on others.
I find it ironic that Jim bring it up, he's willing, "to boldly go where no AAMO has gone before" ;D
Anyway, I'll go where the people are and like it or not eventually there won't be many people playing DoD 1.3. I enjoy playing with all of you guys and it's guys like Jump, Sinz, McShiz, Trin, Hodg, Scar, etc. that keep me playing this innovative game (circa 1996).

Hi guys! Let's not forget, in regards to 1.3, that even in recent history there have been people who are new to the HL experience. For instance, as I recall, Foxtrot has been coming here now since 2008-01-23 (according to the stats page) and he never played before (as I recall him mentioning). I certainly have had my fun calling him a "camper", but the reality is that his gameplay has improved noteably in recent history and I consider him a friend as well as those on this server that are veterans.
My point is, that there are people out there who are new to it, and for one reason or another have jumped onto 1.3 vs Source. I'm not slamming Source, for I have, in general discussions, heard pros and cons about Source, just as there are for 1.3.
Now Jim makes a pretty generous offer, but I for one could not accept his generosity and could only see a financial hardship if everybody in his brother jumped on the bandwagon to accept it. Admittedly, a great reason why I continue to play 1.3 is because I've had the game for several years, and don't need to put out additional money for a newer game. To find servers still playing it is a great plus. Along with that is the "extended family" I seemed to have found here. Even as a "veteran" to DoD 1.3, my gameplay doesn't come close to many of the people here on the server, but I still enjoy the game, the experience, and friendships I have gained here.
So I guess the question is, "to be or not to be". I personally am content with what I have and would hate to see people move on, if that's their choice. But that's life and that's their choice and I guess one of the realities of life.
I hope to continue with 1.3 and hope others do as well.

Jim
I believe with the gameservers account you can change games on the fly. So back up WOK really well on a few pcs and change it over to source so we can mess around with it. Then if there are issues it can be switched back easily.
The price is the same for source vs 1.3 .........$1.49 per slot. The only issue I see is the custom maps are MUCH larger so your fast download server would get filled up quick.

That is good advise Beek, but after playing Source for a few days, It's is a cool game, but I still like 1.3 better.
Kizzy had looked into the switch thing and we had thought about doing it with WOK, we still might, but for now my computer is a little dated like Jump said his is too, so it will get very costly for people to upgrade just to play the game. I see a difference between mine and Taaron's computer, but not so much on 1.3
So for now we will teleport into our starship, and travel the Universe in search for more Kirk's to challenge the evil Klingon AAMO.
