Well, my Gateway piece of crap has died again. I'm on my emergency Compaq running Windows ME. I was able to play DOD a bit but more than likely I'm through for a while. I believe it's the second motherboard this thing has totaled! It's out of warranty and they aint wanting to hear about it. I certainly aint in the market for a new box!!! Looking bad for my DOD future! At least I can post!

Hmm that sucks.
Sounds like time to trash the ME and load 98 on the sucker.

this one has other issues also. I'm not sure what exactly ails it.

Look around, you should be able to get just a basic system (mobo, cpu, ram, box) for around $100. Save what you need on your hd and wipe it clean and reinstall everything to the new system. It's kinda funny really, when a pc decides that it's done there is nothing you can do. Hope you get back up and going soon.

I got too much going on to put this at the top. The Compaq will allow kids to do homework but right now the things not liking DOD. I know a guy who will look at it. Well, probably need some time away to finish up a few projects and actively try to sell a vehicle or two. Then, maybe I can buy a Beekman 3000!!! ;D

hey i know you can get board ram processor and case for under 200 bucks , i did it for my wife a couple months ago . heck its way better then mine, you wont need case and if you buy board that uses the ram u have that will save mony to . all you should need is motherboard prossesor combow, maybe hundred bucks i think i only paid 80 bucks for hers and it runs great. about a hour to put everything togeather then your ready for clean install so pretty much use everthing you have just replace motherboad-prossesor your good to go, good luck

You have to have a hack to piss Constable off??! Well, my issue is not the power supply. We reset (CMOS?) on the board and it came on momentarily but only once which led my tech to go back to motherboard issues. One is now on order. It will be either that or the processor chip but the chip, when power is applied warms up so it should be ok. I'll still be down until next week. I'm talking all this tech crap and I only know just enough to be dangerous!!! I suppose I should learn this stuff at some point so I can fix/build my own computers. I like a good challenge and it does interest me...eh, maybe later!

Well it's fixed and I'll get it back tomorrow. Fried motherboard.
I doubt I'll be on much until the weekend though as I've actually discovered that there's life outside of this insidious game and am quite busy! Hope to see (and kill) the gang soon!
